The Queensland Acoustic Neuroma Association is a patient headed, peer support group operating as a not-for-profit organisation.  This mutual aid group provides information with newsletters, meetings and a support network

History

QANA was founded in June 1987.  It has grown from interchange among patients who feel the need for support and an information network

Aims

·         To provide support to patients who have experienced acoustic neuromas or other tumours affecting the cranial nerves

·         To gather and provide information to patients and family members

·         To increase awareness about acoustic neuroma, QANA, and their resources available within QANA

QANA activities

·         Provides opportunities for patients to communicate with other patients

·         Holds meetings once every 2 months

·         Has local support network

·         Responds to members non-medical needs

·         Publishes a newsletter once every 2 months

·         Promotes public education about acoustic neuroma symptoms and the needs of people affected by such tumours
